Bungala Solar Farm has partnered with Port Augusta City Council to support the 2022 Malka Art Prize, with $20,000 on offer for the overall winner. 

Sunny Rutherford, Sustainability Manager for Enel Green Power, representing Bungala Solar Farm stated “We are delighted to support emerging or established First Nations artists from across the local region and we are humbled to be part of an important exhibition showcase”. 

“This a significant opportunity for First Nations artists to showcase their talent and for Malka to be recognised nationally and internationally, as a valued Art Prize,”. Marika Davies, Yarta Purtli Aboriginal Art Curator stated. 

Councils Manager of Strategy, Theressa Hines, stated “Port Augusta’s ability to host high calibre Art Prizes will be a drawcard for tourism in the region; Yarta Purtli Gallery is well placed as an enabler of local talent”. 

“Artists who are thinking of entering the 2022 Malka Art Prize will be assisted with online information sessions for artists and we will be liaising with business operators to identify how they can contribute and be part of the Malka Art Prize award evening.” CEO John Banks stated. 

KEY DATES: 

• Malka 2022 entries close May 15th 2022, 5:00pm 

• Award Dinner/Art Auction: 23rd June 2022 (Online Auction will run concurrently) 

• Exhibition open 10th June to 23rd July 2022 

• People’s Choice Award announcement: 7th July 2022 (Naidoc Week) 

• Entries will be accepted from First Nations persons (in accordance with terms and conditions) 

Malka Art Prize is the brainchild of the late Mr Marvin McKenzie Senior, who’s vision was to have an Aboriginal art prize that would ensure Aboriginal communities would have a space to showcase their work. Malka Art Prize has now been running for 13 years and it is an opportunity for Aboriginal Artists to exhibit their talent, winners often progress to State and National exhibitions.
